Chisinau, 09 July /MOLDPRES/ – Over 3,600 Moldovan and foreign citizens have suffered after a Moldovan hacker had virused their computers. The systems were infected by distributing unlicenced programmes via "torrent" platforms.
The Moldovan has been working with other persons which have not yet been established. Currently, he has the status of accused, being investigated criminally, and high – powered electronic media are subject to an informational analysis.
The identification of the Moldovan citizen was carried out by the prosecutors of Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Causes, together with officers of the National Investigation Inspectorate and the Information and Security Service officers of the Centre for Combating Cybercrime.
The suspects uploaded various unlicenced programmes on torrent – based platforms that were prevented to evade information access to electronic mail or other online accounts.
As a result of infecting computer systems, hackers have obtained passwords and other online access data from emails, bank accounts, and user websites.
The prosecutors urge persons to use licenced programmes or use modern safety tools.
