PM says Moldova's diplomacy should promote country's interests, investment opportunities

Chisinau, 9 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today attended a meeting of Moldova’s ambassadors. The discussions were focused on priorities of the foreign policy, current developments in Moldova and the need to improve the communication on the external stage, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

In his speech to the ambassadors, the PM stressed that, to have and efficient foreign policy, the general international situation must be taken into account, as well as the foreign and domestic policies, both due to be oriented for the benefit of the citizens.

„Our goal is that the citizens liver better as a result of our work as government and yours as representatives of the cabinet abroad. And we have chosen the European vector not in vain; this is our only plan and we want, first of all, to take over the European principles, approaches and values,” Pavel Filip said.  

The prime minister noted that Moldova has very good relations with the neighbour countries, as well as regionally, within the Eastern Partnership. The PM pointed out the approval by the United Nations of the Resolution on the withdrawal of the foreign troops from Moldova as a recent diplomatic success. The prime minister thanked diplomats for the work carried out to this end.

The PM also made radiography of the reforms implemented by the cabinet, especially in the banking sector, justice, business environment and on the Transnistrian segment. He noted that these reforms would be continued as intensely as so far. “All this government assumed has been fulfilled. And we will work more in the justice sector too, as there is no developed state without ensuring the supremacy of law,” Pavel Filip emphasized.   

In the context, the prime minister expressed disagreement with the recent resolution passed by the European Parliament – an action which had political reasons at its basis. At the same time, Pavel Filip specified that the providing of installments of financings on behalf of IMF and World Bank represented a certificate of confidence for the Moldovan authorities and an objective assessment of the stabilization of the macro-economic situation in Moldova.    

At the same time, the PM highlighted that an essential role in the foreign policy is played by communication and to have a good communication on the external stage, the domestic situation should be very well understood, so that there is no room for wrong perceptions based on speculations and interpretations caused by the misinformation of political character. Thus, the prime minister asked the ambassadors to be quite well-informed about the present situation from Moldova and to promote the interests of Moldova and the investment opportunities.  

The ambassadors, for their part, put more questions on up-to-date subjects and also came up with proposals on the promotion of the economic and cultural diplomacy, export offers and investment opportunities. Also, the participants in the meeting tackled the need to strengthen the bilateral relations, sign new agreements on mutual protection of investments and on social security.    

The annual meeting of the Moldovan diplomacy is organized by the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry on 9-11 July 2018. The event is aimed at considering issues of the work of diplomatic missions and enhancing their efficiency, carrying out the foreign policy and setting new tasks and priorities.
