Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova should adopt global indicators on sustainable development goals (DDAs), without change, being the reporting and signatory country of Agenda 2030. This is the conclusion of a report analising and evaluating the context for the implementation of sustainable development objectives related to food and agriculture.
The report was presented at a workshop of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), opened in Chisinau today.
For three days, FAO international experts have the mission to facilitate understanding of international methodologies established for monitoring of sustainable development indicators by the representatives of the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), institutions responsible for implementation and monitoring of ODDs including agriculture and food.
"The FAO aims to improve awareness and capacity of public administration institutions to implement and monitor ODDs to enable the Government to effectively contribute to implementation and monitoring of ODDs at country level," said Deputy FAO Representative in Moldova, Tudor Robu.
The findings in the report were the basis for development of a two-year action plan for implementation and monitoring of ODDs on food and agriculture by MADRM.
According to a press release, the activities are part of FAO project: "Support to ODD Implementation and Monitoring".
In September 2015, Moldova, along with 192 other UN members, committed to implementing Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. It will achieve what has been initiated under the Millennium Development Goals, with main goal being eradicating poverty by 2030 and ensuring sustainable development around the world.
