Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - Officials, physicians, persons with disabilities today participated in as seminar on family planning. The event took place in the context of marking the World Population Day.
In the opening of the seminar, Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Svetlana Cebotari said that each person and each pair have right to freely decide on the number of children they want, the interval between pregnancies and the moment when they would like to plan the pregnancy, as well as if they are willing to have children. “Unfortunately, 17 per cent of the women of reproductive age (15-49 years) from Moldova have not contraceptives, although they do not plan a pregnancy. Only one third of the women use modern contraceptives and 14 per cent resort to traditional contraceptives. At the same time, each seventh man thinks that only the woman is responsible for the family planning. As for teenagers, about one third of the 15-year-old boys and more than a half of those who turned 17 have used no contraceptive in the last sexual contact. We should change the perception of the society about the family planning. Each person should have access to information and counseling not only when reaching the reproductive age, but much earlier,” the official said.
The participants in the seminar were informed about the family planning, myths about the use of products inspired from people’s traditions, used as contraceptives in Moldova and their negative effects on the reproductive health.
The World Population Day is annually marked on 11 July.
