Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - The participants in international missions and operations, who were decorated with the International Missions Cross, will benefit, along with beneficiaries of pensions and other categories of people, from nominal allocations for special merits before the state, according to a notification to a draft law on the amendment and completion of the law on veterans, adopted at a today’s cabinet meeting.
This draft law is aimed at providing additional measures of social protection for Moldova’s citizens who participated in international missions and operations.
According to the Defence Ministry, about 100 citizens of Moldova (16 servicemen in international missions under the aegis of UNO, 80-82 military in the KFOR mission (Kosovo), 1-2 persons in other missions) yearly participate in international missions/operations. The ministry noted that, in accordance with the law on veterans, the persons decorated with state distinctions of cross type are to benefit from the right to nominal allocation, only if the pension is established for them in line with the legislation in force.
Data by the Defence Ministry shows that, starting from 1997 till present, about 600 servicemen have participated in international missions and operations. As many as 120 of them were released from the military service with right to pension; a half of these persons were awarded various state distinctions. About 20 servicemen, who have earlier participated in international missions or operations, are annually released from military service under contract.
