Benefits of Moldova-UNO partnership assessed at Moldovan government

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva today chaired the third meeting of the committee on coordination of the Framework of Partnership United Nations Organization (UNO) – Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The participants in the meeting assessed the benefits of the UNO-Moldova partnership and discussed ways of overcoming difficulties in achieving the common goals.
PM Pavel Filip thanked UN for valuable and long-lasting assistance provided to Moldova to implement the reforms’ agenda and advance on the way of the country’s modernization.
„We further rely on UNO’s support to ensure our country’s sustainable development through good governance and respect for human rights, sustainable and inclusive economic growth and, not in the least, fair social development. The government speaks out for an efficient turning to account of the UNO assistance, the tangible results for the citizens of which will be also the improvement of their living standards,” the prime minister said.
The participants in the meeting evaluated the carrying out, in 2017, of the Framework of Partnership UN – Moldova 2013-2017, as well as the progress made in the implementation of the Framework of Partnership, for the period 2018-2022.
The results of the joint programme for the last year regards three dimensions: democratic governance, justice, gender quality and human rights; human development and social inclusion; environment, climate change and disaster risk management. UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva stressed that UN was firmly committed to further develop the cooperation with Moldova and thanked the government for the excellent collaboration.
As for the enforcement of the new Framework of Partnership, which represents an essential instrument for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Moldova, the representatives of the UN Agencies highlighted the positive developments for edifying transparent and responsible governance, ensuring a lasting economic growth, as well as for improving the sustainable management of the environment. The rapporteurs emphasized the importance of a better mobilization of human and financial resources, in order to achieve all priorities and targets set.
Also, decision-makers analyzed the process of working out the Moldova-2030 National Development Strategy. The strategy is to be subjected to public consultations in next September at the latest. “The adoption of the Strategy is a priority, in the context of the aligning with the Agenda 2030 and the provisions of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement. This is a very important strategic document, focused on the man, which determines the vision of development of our country, in line with those ten goals established,” Pavel Filip said.
The prime minister asked for a maximum involvement of the public authorities in giving the final touches to the Strategy, as well as of implementing the present framework of partnership UNO – Moldova.
