Moldova continues implementing project on energy interconnection with Romania

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ – The issues regarding implementation of interconnection project of Moldova and Romania's electricity systems were discussed today at Government in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip. The head of Executive specified the importance of advancement in realisation of projects contributing to development of electricity market and increase the level of energy security of Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In this context, it was concluded upon phased approach of feasibility of continuation of the asynchronous interconnection project of Moldova's electricity system with that of Romania. Thus, authorities will proceed with project implementation by constructing the first module of back-to-back station with capacity of 300 MW at Vulcanesti electric transformer station. In order to meet the technical and economic feasibility of this stage, EU will decide on allocation of entire grant component of €40 million.
The project will also be supported financially by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB). Additionally, it will be negotiated and signed financing agreement with the World Bank (WB) for construction of the Vulcanesti – Chisinau air power line in 2018.
Also, there will be continued efforts to implement the joint interconnection project of Moldova and Ukraine with ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission Operators and Electricity System).
