Moldovan cabinet backs stricter requirements for management of medical waste

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a sanitary regulation on the management of waste resulted from the medical activity, in the context of the aligning with the European norms in the sector.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the regulation sees that each hospital will have a central room for temporary stocking of medical waste. The duration of the stocking will be as short as possible, 48 hours for dangerous waste and 180 hours at the most for inoffensive waste.
As for the collection of waste, it will be carried out separately according to types of medical substances and materials, only in specialized places, with the categorical prohibition of putting them in common containers of the living dwellings.
Also, solutions are envisaged to destroy the waste, if they cannot be destroyed through thermal decontamination. The term of treatment of inoffensive and dangerous waste will not exceed 180 days after depositing.
The goal of the improvement of the normative framework in the sector is to facilitate the process of waste management, remove risks of appearance of diseases, including professional ones, ensure the health of the residents and protect the environment.
