Programme on development of wideband networks for 2018-2020 to be published in Moldova's Official Journal

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government’s decision on the approval of the programme on development of wideband networks for 2018-2020 and of an action plan for its carrying out will be published in the 13 July issue of the Official Journal.
Under the cabinet decision, the programme’s carrying out by 2020 will ensure the connection of all Moldovan settlements to wideband networks with a speed of at least 30 Mbps.
The programme includes political and administrative measures meant to stimulate the development of the infrastructure of new-generation high-speed electronic communications and of penetration of wideband access services in Moldova, up to the level of the European Union countries. Decision-makers plan to develop, in 2028-2020, wideband electronic communications networks and ensure the availability of the access to these networks in all settlements, re-organization/ modernization of the electronic communications networks for ensuring the wideband access.
Data by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry shows that the number of subscribers to fixed Internet access services increased from 467,000 in 2013 to 584,000 in 2017, as a result of a strong increase of optic fiber connections. The number of subscribers benefiting from more advanced technologies increased 1.5 times on this period. The mobile telephony wideband networks presently cover 90 per cent of Moldova’s territory.
