According to the Customs Service’s information and media communication service, there are currently 180 such devices. Some of these have been replaced by new ones, depending on wear degree, and the new cameras are to be purchased later.
The devices are installed at all border crossing points, internal control customs posts dislocated near administrative line with the Transnistrian region, as well as those established within Chisinau International Airport and post offices.
The functionality of existing devices has been verified today by Customs Director, Vitalie Vrabie, which wanted to see how it is ensured real – time viewing of monitored areas.
The monitoring takes place on a non – stop basis, involving several officers of subdivision in charge for preventing incidents of integrity that may favour fraud. Therefore, surveillance camps also include offices of customs inspectors which activity is continuously monitored.
The installation of video surveillance systems is to be assured also in 48 customs warehouses. They store goods worth a total of MDL 1.2 billion, and in absence of effective supervision, there is a risk that stored goods will be placed on market without payment of import duties.
