More tax service employees, economic agents investigated in corruption file in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ – A tax inspector was detained today for 72 hours in a passive corruption file. In the same case, there are being investigated other employees of the State Tax Inspectorate (IFS) which had requested and received money from several economic agents for certain illegal services.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office's information and media communication service, during February – March 2017, IFS employees had requested and received MDL 180,000 from two economic agents to accept a request for refund of VAT on fruit exports for October 2016.
Also, in February – May 2018, IFS employees had requested and received from another economic agent about MDL 70 thousand as not to document violations in activity of managed companies.
According to law enforcement body, the offender is a tax inspector. In the criminal case there are six suspects, including economic agents. The economic agents are being investigated for active corruption. Also one of suspects is in search.
Within file, the anticorruption prosecutors have conducted 10 searches today at suspects living places and offices. As a result, there were erected documents, computers and information carriers.
If found guilty, tax inspector risks 05 – 10 years in prison with a fine of up to MDL 400 thousand.
