Child dies of mushroom poisoning in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ – A four-year-old child died, his sister and parents are in serious condition in the hospital due to a mushroom poisoning.
The case took place in Floresti. The spouses and children would have poisoned after eating mushrooms gathered in the woods.
Interviewed by agency, press officer of Floresti Police Inspectorate, Dina Fomin, mentioned that the family initially addressed Floresti hospital, but later the spouses and children were transported to a medical institution in Chisinau where the child died.
The other child of the family is eight years old.
This week, over 10 people have poisoned with mushrooms.
According to physicians, clinical manifestations of fungal intoxication vary depending on type of toxin contained within mushrooms, ingested amount, duration of incubation period. There may occur gastrointestinal disorders such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, hallucinations and general weakness.
In order to eliminate the risk of poisoning, authorities and doctors recommend that citizens purchase mushrooms only from authorised establishments which provide a guarantee for consumers and prepare them properly.
