First measles case registered in capital, authorities say

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/- Four suspected cases of measles were recorded in Chisinau, one of which was confirmed in the laboratory. The patient is a nine-year-old from Stăuceni who had not been vaccinated against this disease, Carolina Olaru, the interim head of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Health in Chişinău, announced today.
523 cases of acute diarrheal diseases have been recorded in the capital in the last week, of which 326 cases - among children. "In hospitals in the city, 270 patients were hospitalized, the hospitalization rate being 50.6%," Olaru said.
The National Agency for Public Health data show that on 1 January - 7 September 2018, there were 281 confirmed cases of measles. A significant increase in the number of illnesses was recorded in August, with 239 confirmed cases. In the first days of September, five new cases of disease were recorded.
Territories affected by measles are districts: Ceadâr-Lunga - 147 cases, Vulcăneşti - 34, Ungheni - 20, Taraclia - 12, Cahul - 10, Cantemir - eight, Ocnita - seven, Nisporeni - four cases, Hânceşti - one case and Chisinau - one case.
