Heart diseases cause more than half of deaths registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cardiovascular diseases are on the first position in terms of causes of residents’ death in Moldova, accounting for about 57 per cent of the overall death rate. To enhance the degree of awareness of the danger represented by the cardiovascular diseases, the authorities hold an information campaign today, when the World Heart Day is marked.  

According to data by the National Agency for Public Health, the 2018 year campaign is focused on the achievement of five key goals regarding the enhancement of the degree of informing about heart diseases and ways of treatment. On the World Heart Day, a string of activities were organized in the Chisinau-based Valea Morilor park for all people willing to benefit from free of charge consultations of physicians specialists cardiologists, to make diverse tests, such as measuring the blood pressure, index of body weight, cardiovascular risk. Also, all participants in the event were urged to make a walk around the lake, in order to promote an active lifestyle.     

Specialists say that the experience of the last thirty years of the economically developed countries has showed that most of the human and social impact of the cases of falling sick and death rate caused by cardiovascular diseases can be removed by carrying out prophylaxis measures and fighting the risks factors. The most cost-efficient preventive measures regard the main cardiovascular risk factors: smoking, unhealthy nourishment, rich in salt and saturated fat, non-practicing physical activity and hypertension. The application of prevention measures might rescue about 80 per cent of lives.   

Data by the World Health Organization shows that the cardiovascular diseases rank first among the causes of death all over the world, causing 29.8 per cent of all number of deaths.

The World Heart Day was established by the World Heart Federation in partnership with the World Health Organization in 2001.
