Over 700 drivers fined in day alone for infringing road traffic rules in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Interior Ministry’s (MAI) Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service (SPIA), jointly with the National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) on 28 September carried out a string of measures to prevent infringements of the road traffic rules, promote a affair behavior in the road traffic, fight corruption, as well as to ensure the job discipline of MAI employees. As many as 741 official reports were compiled in the wake of the operation, with the imposing of fines amounting to 458,340 lei and 1,811 penalty points.
The SPIA press officer, Natalia Seremet, has said that the operation had been held all over Moldova and the following persons got in the focus of SPIA and MAI employees: five civil servants with special status, two former policemen, three Customs Service employees, one former employee of the Fulger Brigade, one bailiff, one employee of a guard agency, one local councilor.
As many as 741 official reports were compiled against drivers who violated the road traffic rules, with the imposing of fines worth 458,340 lei and 1,811 penalty points. The most frequent infringements documented were: exceeding the speed limit, infringement of rules of vehicle’s exploitation, driving drunk and the lack of driver’s licence.
At the same time, three drivers were documented for active corruption, of whom one Italian citizen, who proposed money to patrol inspectors, so that the latter do not compile an official report against him for exceeding the speed limit.
The operation’s goal was to diminish the number of traffic accidents, raise the awareness of the public opinion about the risks of occurring of traffic accidents, enhancement of the efficiency of the activity of prevention of infringement of the road traffic rules.
