Eleven Moldovan elderly persons get prizes at national contest for active life at any age

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 11 elderly persons have become winners of the national context, For an Active Life at Any Age. These people got diplomas and prizes worth 40,000 lei in all.
The people who were awarded prizes are older than 60 years and were selected for important achievements in the cultural and artistic sectors, popular craftsmanship, health, civic activity, volunteering and agriculture.
Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Silvia Radu today congratulated the winners, noting that they represent an example for the entire society. According to Radu, at present, there are still prejudices that, if one reaches the retirement age, he/she is no longer active.
„Our duty is to do our utmost to create needed conditions, so that elderly people, our parents, grandparents be as active as possible and be component part of our society. Their experience can significantly contribute to developing the society,” Silvia Radu said.
One of the winners of the contest is a 66-year-old woman, Domnica Petrovici, from the northern Edinet district. According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, she was selected for active involvement in organizing educational and cultural activities for elderly people from her community.
The contest for the national prize for elderly people is at its second issue and was held on the period 25 July – 1 September 2018. About 30 old persons participated in the contest. The event was organized in the contest of the International Day of Older Persons, annually marked on 1 October.
About 630,000 people older than 60 years live in Moldova.
