Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - Native producers of apples and plums look for solutions to sell the production got in 2018, which is better than the last year one. These producers had a meeting with Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Nicolae Ciubuc on 29 September. The minister proposed to organize a fair in the Moldovan capital, so that farmers can sell their goods at accessible prices.
According to the fruits producers and processors, this year, the production of apples is by 20,000 tons bigger than in 2017 and there are by 15,000 tons of plums more. In these conditions, the producers expressed concern that the volume of fruits at the world level would influence possibilities to sell the production from Moldova.
The agriculture minister said that a solution would be to organize a fair, within which consumers could buy apples and plums directly from the producer, at accessible prices. Ciubuc also said that the programme of distribution of apples in schools and kindergartens might be resumed. ‘’I will bring this subject to the attention of government colleagues and I hope that it will soon be implemented,’’ the minister said.
At the discussions, the producers suggested the setting up of an agro-food centre in Chisinau and amending the subsidization policy, so that the subsidies provided in the processing sector become priority.
The Moldova Fruct Association of Fruits’ Producers and Exporters from Moldova has recently informed that, in 2018, Moldova might get the biggest harvest of apples of the last ten years.
