Chisinau, 01 October /MOLDPRES/ – There will soon be installed 14 charging stations for electric cars on the main highways in Moldova. They will be purchased on the basis of a partnership between the Energy Efficiency Fund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It was signed today a financing agreement in this regard between the two institutions.
According to a press release of UNDP Moldova, the total amount of the project is MDL 4 million, out of which MDL 2 million are provided by the Energy Efficiency Fund, and another 2 million will be invested by UNDP Moldova. The project will be managed by project Green Durable Cities, implemented by UNDP Moldova and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
"We are proposing the creation of the first public charging station for electric cars in Moldova. The network will provide electric mobility in major cities in the country, as well as the electric corridor between Romania and Ukraine," said director of the Energy Efficiency Fund, Sergiu Corin.
The project's authors estimate that it will be completed by spring of 2019. The places where the loading stations are to be installed will be established on the basis of a feasibility study.
At present, there are registered 54 electric cars and 05 loading stations in Moldova, which are installed in Chisinau. In many countries the share of electric cars exceeds 1 per cent of the total vehicle volume. For Moldova, a 1 per cent share would mean 10,000 electric vehicles.
