Chisinau, 01 October /MOLDPRES/ – There was opened today a Perinatal School at the Centre for Mother and Child in Tiraspol. The proposal came from the Center for Healthcare Information and Communication (CICS) and it was carried out due to the European funding provided throughout project: The support to confidence building measures, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Due to this school, future parents in Tiraspol and Grigoriopol will have access to perinatal care. Within the institution, three specialists (gynecologist, neonatologist and psychologist) will answer questions from mothers and fathers.
"Every trimester of pregnancy comes with new sensations, emotions and sometimes worries. Here, pregnant women will recognize the changes in their body and together with their partners will understand how the baby develops. Our school operates with truthful info now that we are all tempted to learn from the Internet what is going on with our health," said founder of CICS, Lilia Onea.
Once a week in school, there will be organised pregnancy sessions and partners wanting to attend birth. The doctors will explain the differences between birth and cesarean birth, the sources and levels of pain during childbirth, and how to take self care and of child.
"The lessons are to be held in a friendly, family atmosphere, so we are convinced that these courses will be very popular," said director of Tiraspol Mother and Child Centre, Natalia Slepuha.
Due to EU funding, such a school already operates in Criuleni. "From the perspective of my own experience, being the father of four healthy children and husband of a healthy woman, I feel privileged that everything has gone well in my family. I personally felt how important pre and postnatal care and close family and home care were. Also, as a representative of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, I am pleased to see that our support meets the real and concrete needs of the population and improves the everyday life of families, as it was the case with my family," said the unit chief of EU Delegation to Moldova, Marco Gemmer.
Each year at the Mother and Child Centre in Tiraspol, approximately 1,700 women give birth.
