Subject of pension reform debated in first meeting of Government press club in Moldova

Chisinau, 01 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Government Press Club was held today for the first time. During the first session, it was discussed topic: The reform of pensions. 01 October - the last stage of valorisation. The event brought together representatives of media institutions and public servants responsible for the implementation of pension reform, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Starting 01 October, pensions for nearly 95,000 people will increase as a result of the implementation of the last stage of pension revaluation. Totally, there are 85, 064 old-age pension beneficiaries and 9,753 beneficiaries of disability pensions.
"As a result of this valorisation, the average age of the old-age pension will increase by almost MDL 308, or 20 per cent, and in the case of disability pensions the increase will be on average MDL 415, with over 40 per cent more", said Principal State Councilor of PM in healthcare and social development, Mircea Buga.
In the last stage of valorisation, the fourth in number, there will be recalculated the pensions established on 01 January 2014 – 31 March 2017. The valorisation will be made from the office, without moving the beneficiary to the territorial social insurance body.
The pension revaluation process is part of pension reform and was initiated in 2017, and the Government succeeded in finalising it by one and a half years earlier than expected. The aim of this reform is to ensure a fair pension system and adjust the pensions affected by the devaluation of money over time.
Also, the pension reform will continue in 2019 by implementing a mechanism that will allow re-calculation of pensions for people who continued working after retirement. "In the first two years of recalculation – 2019 and 2020, we propose to re-calculate the pensions of people who retired before 01 January 1999. In order to benefit from recalculation, the persons should go to the territorial social insurance houses of residence," said State Secretary for Social and Health Insurance at the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection, Nelea Rusu.
The Government Press Club will also be held in the future to discuss issues of social importance.
