Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Constitutional Court (CCM) today turned down a notification by an MP of the Party of Socialists, Vladimir Ondostalco, and left in force a legislative act which provides for not allowing non-vaccinated children to go to schools and kindergartens.

The CCM judges today morning assembled in the council chamber and ruled to reject the request on the suspension of the action of the Article 52, paragraph 6 from the Law No 10 from 3 February 2009 on the health’s state supervision and the item 21, paragraph 1, letter e) of the cabinet decision No 1113 from 6 October 2016 on the approval of the national plan of immunizations for 2016-2020.

Also today, the management of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) gave a news conference, during which it explained the need to vaccinate and presented details on the quality of vaccines bought by the authorities, their cost, as well as the expenses an eventual epidemic of measles could trigger.

ANSP deputy director Nicolae Furtuna asked the parents who refuse to vaccinate their children to revise their attitude, noting that, for the time being, the immunization is the surest way of protection against more diseases, among which also measles. “Should we have our deaths, so that we understand that we have epidemic of measles? Are the cases from Ukraine and Romania not enough?” Furtuna said.

On 2 October, Deputy Parliament Speaker Valeriu Ghiletchi said that the subject of access of non-vaccinated children to school was on the authorities’ agenda and the cabinet would soon come up with solutions, so that these minors return to school.

In late last August, the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry issued an order, thereby announcing an orange code of risk of spread of measles and recommended that the education institutions do not accept non-vaccinated children to education institutions.

On the period 1 January – 2 October 2018, 295 confirmed cases of measles were recorded in Moldova. A significant increase in the number of persons ill with measles was registered in last August, with 239 confirmed cases recorded.
