Foreign affairs ministers of Moldova, Ukraine discuss aspects of bilateral cooperation, European integration

Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/ - The boosting of the political dialogue, inter-ministerial cooperation, the Moldovan-Ukrainian collaboration within various international and regional organizations, as well as other issues of common interest represented the main subjects of the discussions between the foreign affairs ministers of Moldova and Ukraine, Tudor Ulianovschi and Pavlo Klimkin, respectively, held by the two officials in Kiev today.
According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, Tudor Ulianovschi and Pavlo Klimkin also discussed matters on the further development of the integrated management of the state border, including through carrying out joint control at crossing points, fostering the cross-border cooperation, development of the bilateral cooperation in the sector of environmental protection, first of all, protection of the Dniester river and rational use of the common water resources.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi appreciated the level of Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation, in order to tighten the security of the Transnistrian segment of the state border, especially through carrying out joint control at the crossing point Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk. “We are interested in extending this joint control also at other border crossing points on this segment, as well as in the opening of the movement for motor passenger transport on the bridge Unguri-Bronnitsya and construction of a new bridge across the Dniester rive nearby the settlement Cosauti and Yampil,” the Moldovan diplomacy head said.
For his part, Pavlo Klimkin confirmed the Ukrainian side’s willingness to further promote the interaction with Moldova in the fields of mutual interest. In the context, Pavlo Klimkin highlighted interest in continuing the successful practice of carrying out joint control at the state border, including on its Transnistrian segment. Also, the Ukrainian diplomacy head backed the importance to speed up the inauguration of the bridge Unguri-Bronntsya.
The foreign affairs ministers of Moldova and Ukraine discussed also problems of security both states had been facing in the last period. “I reiterate Moldova’s position of principle – we firmly support the Ukrainian authorities’ efforts to re-establish the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine over its eastern regions and the Crimea peninsula,” Tudor Ulianovschi stressed.
Referring to the concerned subject, the Kiev diplomacy head said that Ukraine was grateful to Moldova for this consistent position and was open for an intensive bilateral cooperation to reduce the risks of regional security. Also, Pavlo Klimkin appreciated the support provided by Moldova to rehabilitate Ukrainian children from families who had suffered in the wake of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
At the meeting, Ministers Tudor Ulianovschi and Pavlo Klimkin exchanged opinions on the bilateral collaboration in other sectors of common interest, especially the commercial and economic collaboration, in the social, education field, etc.., as well as the cooperation in different regional and international organizations, in order to jointly promote the national interests, ensure the independence and territorial integrity, as well as the security of Moldova and Ukraine.
In the end of the meeting, Tudor Ulianovschi and Pavlo Klimkin signed a plan of inter-ministerial political consultations for 2018-2019, one of the topics of which is development of the bilateral cooperation in the field of European integration and promoting the reforms’ agenda.
The two ministers held a joint news conference at the end of the meeting.
