Less young people to be conscripted in National Army in Moldova

Chisinau, 03 October /MOLDPRES/ – The number of youngsters enrolled in the National Army (AN) in October 2018 – January 2019 will be reduced by 400 as compared to the previous incorporation period and by 200 recruits for Carabinieri Troops in the context of armed professionalisation. The government has approved today the decision to set up a military service for up to 800 recruits in the National Army and 400 recruits for Carabinieri troops.
According to the Ministry of Defence's information and media communication service, in April – July 2018, the task of incorporating the National Army was up to 1,200 recruits, and for Carabinieri Troops – 600 recruits.
The authorities intend to gradually reduce the number of young people enrolled in AN, with the aim of giving up compulsory military service as of 2021.
Previously, MA stated that "The AN's proffesional action plan provides for the gradual abolition of compulsory military service. The implementation of the respective action plan will be initiated with the launch of the next autumn campaign of incorporation. Reducing the number of soldiers in the run-up is in favour of increasing the number of professional militaries employed on a contractual basis."
The Cabinet of Ministers also decided to release from military service and transfer to the reserve of the Armed Forces in October 2018 – January 2019 the soldiers which were incorporated into the military service in October 2017 – January 2018, and in October 2018 – the military were incorporated into the low-level military service in July of 2018.
