Moldovan PM demands reorganization of emergency medicine service

Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today demanded that the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry reorganizes the Emergency Medical Assistance Service and works out, in a two-week period, a plan of measures to this end. The demand comes in the wake of a death of man on the Lech Kaczyński Street in Chisinau, when the PM asked for disciplinary sanctions against more persons involved in the bad management of this case, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

„I asked for the recordings from 112 and the emergency control service and listened them. The way people work at the ambulance is one which simply terrified me. I was frightened by what I heard, by how control operator discusses with physicians. Physicians speak with contempt and arrogance with those who call and are in crisis situations. I am absolutely sure that the No 1 problem is not the lack of money, but the attitude some people have when they do their job and this attitude left me wordless,” the prime minister said.

The PM noted that the way people acted in this case was regrettable – the control operator had to call four teams of physicians and the doctor received the call only at the fourth attempt, after which the ambulance went as late as in 13 minutes. “What this team of physicians has done during all this time is not clear.   Especially as GPS systems are set on each vehicle and this car came from the ambulances station to the Lech Kaczyński Street in ten minutes. So, if they reacted immediately, in ten minutes, the physicians had to be there,” Pavel Filip specified.

Statistics data shows that the duration of management of one case varies from 50 minutes up to one hour – this means that, in eight hours at the latest, the team can go to eight calls at the most. “This thing is made deliberately; the case is not closed to drink a coffee, to have a rest. As manager, one immediately wonders: how efficiently these cars and teams of physicians are used? The situation is quite serious; therefore, take this sector as priority one,” the prime minister added.
