Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/ - All pigs from the Crocmaz village, south-eastern Stefan Voda district, will be slaughtered, as three hotbeds of African swine fever were registered there. In this respect, the cabinet today approved a draft which sees the destruction of all pigs from the settlements where at least three hotbeds of swine fever were detected, in order not to allow the spread of the virus in the country. The owners of the slaughtered animals will get compensations, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In this context, at an initiative by PM Pavel Filip, the government has earlier approved a plan of measures for combating and prevention of the spread of the African swine fever in Moldova. This provides for the extension of the period of hunting for wild boars, foxes and jackals, which are virus bearers. Also, control will be toughened at border crossing points, with the import of pork and pork products banned.
According to data by the National Food Safety Agency, the situation in terms of spread of the African swine fever in Moldova becomes more and more alarming against the years before. Thus, in 2018, 25 hotbeds of swine fever registered, of which 16 ones are active. So far, 14 districts from south-eastern Moldova have been hit by this virus, with 253 domestic pigs destroyed.
