Moldova's Chamber of Commerce and Industry marks 100th anniversary of foundation

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), at a today’s official ceremony, marked the 100th anniversary of its foundation and the 25th anniversary of the setting up of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration under the institution.
Attending the event were representatives of the Chambers of Commerce from more states, among which Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Belarus Armenia, Azerbaijan. At the ceremony, more CCI employees were awarded honorary diplomas of the government.
During the event, CCI President Sergiu Harea said that the institution he leads was the biggest business association of Moldova, which voluntarily brings together 1,200 companies from all branches of the national economy.
Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that, in its work, CCI had provided assistance to the business environment and made efforts to represent the interests of the private sector in the relation with the state’s institutions. At the same time, the Chamber backed the public sector in terms of working out the normative and legislative framework and the documents of public policies with impact on the business environment, Leanca added.
Attending the festivity, the first president of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, noted that CCI stimulated Moldova’s integration in the world economic circulation and the attraction of the foreign capital in the country’s economy.
The second president of Moldova, Petru Lucinschi, said that CCI was one of the fewest institutions which had preserved its “neutrality” during the years of independence and “did not get involved in political struggles.”
The first Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Bessarabia, headquartered in Chisinau, was created under a decree by King Ferdinand of Romania on 24 October 1918. The Chamber was made up of 35 members merchants and manufacturers.
