Economics minister says Free Economic Zones register significant growth in Moldova in first nine months of 2018

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Free Economic Zones (FEZ) registered a significant increase in January-September 2018, according to Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici. Thus, the number of FEZ employees residents stood at about 14,000, which is by 28.4 per cent more against 1 October 2017, according to preliminary activity reports presented at a meeting with FEZ managers.
„The development of Free Economic Zones and Industrial Parks is one of the ministry’s priorities. Each newly come investor means jobs, infrastructure in the region, payments and taxes to the state budget. I want that we have such a zone in each district. At present, we work to create the best conditions for the coming of an investor to the local market, who is to open more than 4,000 jobs,” Chiril Gaburici said.
At the same time, rapporteurs said that the overall investments in those seven free economic zones had amounted to 391.4 million dollars. This index increased by 15.1 per cent against the concerned period of the last year. In the context, the managers noted that a string of investment projects would be carried out in the free zones; thus, in the next two years, the investments will grow by about 250 million dollars.
According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, the volume of net sales of industrial production increased by over 68 per cent for the period January-September 2018 and stood at 6,525 million lei.
