Moldovan Diaspora citizens to be able to learn about nearest polling stations, how crowded they are

Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Diaspora citizens will be able to learn which are the nearest polling stations to their place of residence and how crowded are they. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today launched the application www.Diaspora.Voteaza.md.
At a news conference, CEC head Alina Russu said the application was meant to improve the communication on the day of the elections. “We hope that this instrument will facilitate citizens’ access to the electoral process. At the same time, the new application provides for the modernization of CEC’s information resources. The application could be accessed both from computer and the mobile phone and will present including the itinerary towards the polling stations. The application will be available in two languages: Romanian and Russian,” Alina Russu noted.
Also, CEC unveiled the new interface due to show the voter turnout on the day of the elections and their preliminary results. “The new model will present the number of electors in due time. The voters will be divided according to the districts and genders. The voter turnout in the uninominal electoral districts could be seen by selecting the districts. The interface will include also the voter turnout in Diaspora and the Transnistrian region. The application would be accessed on a separate link which, for security reasons, will be published later on,” the head of the CEC’s Information Technologies Department, Alexandru Balmos, said.
The applications were created in the context of the holding of the parliamentary elections and republican consultative referendum on 24 February. They were made within the project, Enhancing Democracy in Moldova through Inclusive and Transparent Elections, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova, with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development, Embassy of the United Kingdom, through the Good Governance Fund and the Embassy of the Netherlands within the Matra programme.
