Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - About 30 producers of fruits and vegetables from Moldova, willing to export their products, will study the standards GlobalG.A.P and GRASP, demanded by the big chains of shops from the European Union and Middle East. The training is held on 12-15 February and is organized by the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) High Value Agriculture Activity in Moldova project.
The implementation of the standards GlobalG.A.P. and GRASP shows that the farm is producing safe fruits and vegetables and proves social responsibility in relation with its employees. The enforcement of the standard GlobalG.A.P. and GRASP is aimed at supplying consumers with safe fruits and vegetables for consumption through minimizing the negative effects on the environment, reducing the chemicals used and ensuring a responsible approaching of employees’ health and security, as well as of the good state of animals. Presently, 120 countries implement the concerned standards.
In Moldova, the GlobalG.A.P. standards have been implemented for 15 years and about 30 agricultural producers have been certified since then. In the last years, more and more native farmers have been interested in implementing these standards in their farms, as this is a compulsory requirement for the export to international markets.
According to a press release, for the first time ever in Moldova, in 2018, two producers were certified GlobalG.A.P./GRASP, which is an additional standard, which confirms that the staff at the farm matters. Thus, Moldova has become the first member country of the Commonwealth of Independent States to implement the GlobalG.A.P./GRASP standards.
