Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan authorities have asked the competent bodies of Russia today to give access to Moldova’s delegation to the two Moldovan citizens who were released from captivity in Afghanistan.

The demand by the Moldovan authorities proceeds from the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963), Article 5, items a), e). g), h) and in particular, Article 36, paragraph 1, Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), Article 3 paragraph 1, item 1), paragraph b), which clearly see the right to protection in the receiving state of the interests of the sending state and of its citizens, within the limits allowed by the international law, as well as the Consular Convention between Moldova and Russia (1994).

The delegation, made up of the general secretary general at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), Mihail Capatina, and head physician of the hospital of the State Chancellery, Evgheni Vasiliev, on 11 February went to Moscow, in order to provide needed assistance to Moldovan citizens Lionel Buruiana (born in 1982) and Mihai Crihana (born in 1965), as well as for carrying out the procedures necessary for their return to Moldova.
