Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/- A drug to treat cough (Eurespal) commonly prescribed to children in Moldova has been withdrawn from the market by an order of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (AMDM).
The order was signed in the afternoon of 12 February, after the drug manufacturer has announced that it may cause heart problems. The same decision was taken by all European countries where the drug was sold.
Alina Gudim, head of AMDM's clinical trials department, said that the decision to withdraw the preparation was based on a notification by a French manufacturing company announcing that the active substance in the medicine can affect the heart.
AMDM also recommended that physicians stop the prescription or release of the medicine and ask them to report suspected adverse drug reactions.
