Moldova, Hungary interested in developing joint economic projects

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Hungarian dialogue is on the rise and gives possibility to develop bilateral projects in the economic sector, as well as in the social and cultural ones. Statements to this effect have been made at a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.  

The PM appreciated the intention of the Hungarian bank OTP to buy the controlling stake of a Moldovan bank. “The coming of the Hungarian bank OTP to the market of Moldova is one more proof that we have managed to stabilize the banking sector of Moldova. This is a reason of personal satisfaction, as we have come to the government’s management against the background of a bank crisis. And now more and more foreign investors come to the banking sector,” Pavel Filip noted.   

Hungary has also opened a crediting line worth 62 million euros for crediting Moldovan and Hungarian companies which jointly do business. “We welcome the initiative of crediting companies from our countries. We want as many Hungarian investors as possible in Moldova,” Pavel Filip said.   

The officials agreed that, to further develop the cooperation between the countries, the joint inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation would hold a meeting in next May, and this is a good platform for discussions.

The prime minister thanked Hungary also for backing Moldova’s European agenda.

Pavel Filip and Péter Szijjártó also exchanged opinions on the parliamentary elections due in Moldova on 24 February 2019. The PM said that the governance’s foremost goal was to organize free and transparent elections, according to the international standards. Pavel Filip specified that the authorities were willing an as large number of observers as possible and a correct and objective assessment of the ballot.
