Three checkpoints of Moldovan-Romanian border to be upgraded

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/- The checkpoints at the Moldovan-Romanian border Sculeni-Sculeni, Leuseni-Albita and Giurgiulesti-Galati will be modernized. This is stipulated in an Agreement signed yesterday in Bucharest by Director of the Customs Service of Moldova Vitalie Vrabie and the head of the Romanian National Agency for Tax Administration Mihaela Triculescu.
According to the Customs Service, the project is financed by the European Union (64.28%) and co-financed by the governments of both states (35.72%), under the Joint Romania-Moldova Operational Program 2014-2020. Its budget is 10 million euros, of which 5 million are destined for the Republic of Moldova. Its budget is 10 million euros, of which 5 million are for Moldova.
70% of the funds distributed to the Moldovan side will be allocated to the capital reconstruction of the Sculeni point. Thus, according to the project approved by the Customs, the territory will be expanded by another 1.3 ha. Both the exit and the entrance will have 3 arteries for cars, two for trucks and one for coaches.
The Customs Service assured that the post will remain operational throughout the rehabilitation works.
At the same time, in May, a new customs control zone, built from its own sources, will be put into operation. It will be about 200 m away from the post, being provided for truck processing.
The Sculeni border post is the second most crossed customs point in the country, constantly registering some of the highest traffic values, especially in the summer, Easter and winter holidays. According to the data, during such periods, it is crossed daily by more than 2,000 transport units. Once the upgraded post has been put into service, its processing capacity will double.
The signing of the Partnership Agreement between the customs authorities of the two states is one of the final stages for the start of the project implementation. The following procedures involve the signing of the financing contract, launching and carrying out tenders and start of rehabilitation works.
