More foreign citizens visit, cross Moldova

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 4.3 million foreign citizens in 2018 crossed the state border at the entrance into Moldova, - by 11.7 per cent more than in the year before, according to data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).  

Six out of ten foreign citizens to cross the state border were from Romania; more than 2.5 million Romanian citizens visited or crossed the territory of Moldova last year. A bit more than one million citizens came from Ukraine, followed, at a big distance, by citizens of Russia - 322,000.

The foreign citizens preferred to travel by cars (81.6 per cent of all the number of crossings), by plane (16.8 per cent) and by train (1.5 per cent).    

On the other hand, the number of crossings of the state border by Moldovan citizens at the exit from Moldova stood at 5.9 million people, - by 2.8 per cent more than in the previous year. Just as the foreigners, Moldovans preferred to travel by motor transport means, the weight of which was 87.1 per cent.

BNS specified that the centralized data had been supplied by the General Inspectorate of the Border Police and shows the information accumulated only through the border crossing points which are under the control of Moldova’s official authorities.
