Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - About 5,400 people from the Moldovan capital last week came to public sanitary and medical institutions with acute respiratory infections. The acting head of the social assistance and health department, Carolina Olaru, today made statements to this effect at the weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall’s services.
According to Olaru, the number of cases with viroses increased by more than ten per cent against the week before, when almost 4.900 cases were reported.
„Children up to 4 years old are the worst hit, in whom about 1,300 cases were recorded. Another more than 1,500 cases were established in children between 5 and 14 years. On this period, 103 sick people were hospitalized. At the same, 205 cases of flu were reported. Also, a death case was registered. It is about a 32-year-old man, who was not vaccinated,” Olaru noted.
Nine cases of TB and 39 cases of varicella were registered in the Moldovan capital last week too.
To avoid the falling sick, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms compatible with influenza. Also, residents and medical staff are urged to use protection masks when assisting and taking care of ill persons. Among physicians’ recommendations, there are washing hands with soap, covering the mouth and nose with disposable paper serviettes during the cough and sneezing, avoiding crowded places.
