Campaign for election of governor starts in administrative centre of south Moldova Gagauz autonomy

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - The electoral campaign for the election of the governor (bashkan) of the Gagauz autonomy has officially started in Comrat, the electoral commission of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri (UTA Gagauz-Yeri) made statements to this effect.    

The commission approved an action plan, seen for a period of three months till the days of elections, as well as the expense sheet for the organization and holding of the ballot.

„The candidates have 60 days to go through an official procedure of registration on behalf of parties or to enjoy the support of initiative groups, to submit the acts to the electoral commission, collect signatures, carry out promotion campaigns, etc.,”  reads a press release by the Comrat electoral commission.

According to the communiqué, a hot line (0298 2-05-05) will be operational on the period of the electoral campaign, at which voters or eventual candidates for the post of head of the Gagauz executive body will be able to get all necessary information.  

The elections of the bashkan will take place on 19 May 2019.

The governor (bashkan) is the supreme official figure of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri. All authorities of the autonomy’s public administration are subordinated to the bashkan. The elections of the governor are held once in four years.
