Five men, two women die of influenza last week in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ – Seven people died of influenza A (H1N1) on 04 – 10 February, the number of deaths rising up to 27. Since the beginning of the cold season, there have addressed a doctor with flu – 1,549 Moldovans.
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection's (MSMPS) information and media communication service, the victims of the flu have become 05 men and 02 women aged 25 – 70 from Chisinau municipality, Ungheni, Nisporeni, Cimislia, Anenii Noi and Taraclia. None of the deceased persons was vaccinated against seasonal flu.
During the same period, specialists recorded 294 cases of seasonal influenza, including 43 confirmed by the laboratory, 15882 cases of upper respiratory tract infections and 589 cases of severe acute respiratory infections. Samples taken from influenza patients showed the presence of A (H1N1) and A (H3N2) viruses.
According to World Health Organisation's data, influenza continues to grow in the European region. A large number of influenza – related deaths are recorded in Romania and Ukraine.
As to avoid illness, the epidemiologists recommend that citizens refrain from self – treatment and contact their doctor for the first symptoms of influenza – compatible disease. It is also necessary to avoid contact with pregnant women, immune – compromised persons, patients with cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes and obesity.
