Spring Festival or Chinese New Year marked in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - A comprehensive event dedicated to the Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year took place at the Chisinau-based Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic on 19 February. The action was organized by the Confucius Institute of the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) in partnership with the Embassy of China in Moldova.
Attending the event, Chinese Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Zhang Yinghong said that, during years, China and Moldova had established solid relations of friendship and mutually advantageous cooperation.
”In the last years, these ties have developed even more intensely, the mutual political trust have strengthened, the collaboration has extended in various sectors. We should highlight that the cultural exchanges have played an essential role, with major impact on enhancing the reciprocal understanding and consolidation of friendship between our nations, which, in their turn, provided a beneficial impetus for cooperation in other fields as well. Since its foundation till present, more than 400 people from Moldova, passionately fond of the Chinese language and culture, have been educated at the Confucius Institute, ULIM. At present, 11 centres of teaching the Chinese language are opened in Moldova, where more than 900 people study and this number is continuously increasing. During the year, the Institute has organized dozens of cultural activities, which contributed to the promotion of the Chinese language and culture, enhancing of the understanding between our nations and encouraging of cultural exchanges,” Zhang Yinghong said.
For her part, the pro-rector for international relations at ULIM, Valentina Ciumacenco, congratulated those present on the Spring Festival, the 2019 issue, wishing them, with the coming of the Chinese New Year, good health, success in work and to the Chinese friendly nation – peace, well-being and continuous progress.
Fragments from the ballet Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, traditional Chinese and Moldovan dances, Wushu and Taijiquan martial arts shows, etc. were presented at the event.
The Chinese New Year started on 5 February 2019 and will end on 24 January 2020. The 2019 year is the year of the pig in China and this year symbolizes happiness, luck and wealth. On the first days of the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival or the Lantern Festival takes place. This festival is the most important traditional holiday in China. The Spring Festival lasts seven days, during which the Chinese do not go to work. The Chinese communities from all over the world celebrate the Chinese New Year with their families. Besides, impressive festivities are organized both in China and in any Chinese district throughout the world.
