Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ – The students from the Faculty of Agronomy of the State University of Moldova (UASM) will study beekeeping with the help of modern apiculture equipment offered within an USAID project.
The new equipment of almost MDL 140 thousand includes vertical hives, stainless steel extractor, apicultural sets, blades and IT tools. According to a press release, the new resources will permit students to study and practise all activities that take place in a modern apiary. So far, students have been able to study apiculture using equipment for decades.
UASM Rector Liviu Volconovici has pointed out at the inauguration ceremony of the teaching staff and the lab that modern equipment offers students the opportunity to become highly qualified specialists who will meet the needs of the private sector.
Academician Nicolae Eremia, a university professor for the apiculture course, said earlier that students were studying on the basis of some traditional hives, about 50 years old. Thus, the primary tools were overtaken by time, while the new facilities correspond to the most modern trends in beekeeping.
At present, UASM has over 120 students, master students and doctoral students who have apiculture in the basic specialty programme, and 400 other students from UASM have apiculture courses.
