Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ – The Transplant Agency of Moldova (ATM) will be able to exchange organs with international medical institutions. Thus, if a patient in Moldova needs urgently a transplant and the organ can not be sampled in Moldova, then the Agency will be able to call on authorised medical institutions from other states. This one and other changes on the ATM's activity were approved today by the Executive, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

A novelty is also the creation of the National Renal Registry (RNR), which will analise the performance of dialysis service providers and their quality for each supplier. Similarly, the dialysis patients, the ones enrolled in the waiting list for renal transplantation, and transplant recipients will be monitored more effectively throughout the Registry. The estimated cost for the creation of the RNR software is about MDL 740 thousand. It is to be integrated into the automated info system Transplant.

A new task of the ATM is to coordinate and monitor human – assisted reproductive activities. The human tissue and human cells, including STEM and reproductive cells, will be created in Moldova. Also, the Transplant Agency, in agreement with the National Public Healthcare Agency (ANSP), will create and maintain a quality control and testing system for all donation, procurement, preservation, storage and distribution activities of human organs, tissues and cells.

The Transplantation Training Centre for Transplant Medical Staff will be set up within the Transplantation Agency, which will allow the increase of competence and improvement of skills of the medical personnel in donation and transplantation at national level.

Currently, there are over 100 persons in Moldova which require organ transplantation.
