Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/- The number of MPs in the so-called Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Moldovan Transnistrian republic could be reduced from 43 to 33 members. Such an initiative was recently launched by a group of 21 Transnistrian MPs.
"We have to start on our own. We plan to optimize the number of deputies, reducing it from 43 to 33. We believe that this will optimize the management system and will reduce the costs of maintaining the authorities, "explained Alexandr Korşunov, speaker of the alleged legislature on the left bank of the Dniester River.
The document also provides for a reduction in the number of elected representatives in local soviets. According to Korsunov, these changes will not affect the interests of voters and only pursue economic goals.
Although the legislative initiative on optimizing the composition of the Tiraspol parliament will be adopted, the changes will only take place in the next electoral cycle, or under the new system, the deputies will be elected in 2020.
Currently, 1155 MPs, including those of local soviets, are in Transnistria.
