Joint Control Commission signals Tiraspol's provocative actions

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Both the delegation of Moldova and representatives of the OSCE Mission, at a 28 February meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), unveiled multiple cases of infringement of the Security Zone’s regime by the Transnistrian power-wielding forces on the period of the electoral campaign and in the day of elections, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.   

The sides were drawn attention that, although there had earlier been mutual assurances to abstain from provocative actions which would disturb the holding of the parliamentary polls, regretfully, the cases signaled show the opposite. In this respect, petitions were submitted, with confirmative materials on the infringements committed attached. 

The infringements recorded on the concerned period started with the detaining, on 21 February 2019, by Transnistrian “border guards” of the staff of the polling station 48/10 and abusive consideration of the technical devices provided by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on job purposes. On the same day, representatives of the OSCE Mission discovered a mobile post of Transnistrian “border guards” between the Bender city and Varnita village; the post was not covered in the report by military observers, for reasons that the Transnistrian side procrastinated the moving of these “border guards” on the spot.

The infringements continued on the day of the polls too, by the setting of mobile posts of “border guards’ in the Corjova village, nearby the Varnita village, as well as through the blocking of the access to the Bender city of electoral officials who were carrying the mobile ballot box to the penitentiary institutions subordinated to the National Administration of Penitentiaries, placed in this settlement.

Moldova’s delegation warned that the concerned abuses were tolerated and were not documented properly because of the non-constructive attitude by military representatives of the Transnistrian region and Russia, who block the work of military observers.   

Also, the Commission members heard the moderators of the working groups as to the activities undertaken and the issues agreed upon at the meetings on 26 February, with the next meetings planed for 12 March.    

In the context of the events dedicated to the Memory Day (2 March), Moldova’s delegation made an appeal to the sides to abstain from any provocative actions, without resorting to supplementing the strength of the law-enforcement bodies in the Security Zone.
