Chisinau, 01 March /MOLDPRES/ – Over 500 persons have donated blood to several localities in the country during a campaign run by the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS) in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Centre (CNTS) and National Union of Students and Youth (UNST) of Moldova.
Director of the CNTS, Svetlana Cebotari, told the agency that by 15:00 the number of blood donors reached 540.
The purpose of the blood donation campaign is to urge Moldova's population, and first and foremost young people, to voluntarily donate blood, thus contributing to the giving of life throughout a high civic spirit act.
The campaign was joined by the National Patrol Inspectorate's (INP) staff. "This campaign was organised as a sign of respect and congratulation to all citizens, but especially to the ones in difficulty, being aware that blood transfusions can be very important for treatment, and even save the lives of persons which depend upon this blood drop," stated INP.
In Moldova, the needs of hemotransfusion therapy are fully covered, with over 70,000 donations being collected annually, covering hemotransfusion therapy for about 21,000 patients. In 2018, the number of voluntary blood donations constituted 93.6 per cent of total donations.
