Moldova commemorates fallen heroes for defense of territorial integrity, state independence

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/- Moldova today marks the Day of commemorating people fallen into armed conflict to defend territorial integrity and state independence (1991-1992).
On this occasion, several commemoration events take place in Chisinau and other localities in the country. On 2 March, traditionally, there are memorial service for those killed in the armed conflict, wreaths and knees at monuments and cemeteries of heroes.
"27 years have passed since the beginning of the struggle for the defense of the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, which have left a deep and painful trace in the heart of the people of our country. Too great was the price of our freedom, which is measured in lives and it is a lesson of about dignity that we are still learning, " Prime Minister Pavel Filip said at the commemoration ceremony held today in the capital.
The conflict in the Transnistrian region broke out on 2 March 1992. The ceasefire took place on July 21, 1992, after the signing of an agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.
About 28,000 combatants, military and reservists of the National Army, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Intelligence and Security Service, hundreds of volunteers and civilians participated in the war. About four hundred people have lost their lives here, and nearly 1,200 people have been injured.
In 2010, the Moldovan Parliament established the day of March 2 as the day of commemorating the heroes fallen in the 1992 war to defend the territorial integrity and independence of the country.
