Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/ - A station for charging electric vehicles was opened in Chisinau today. The station is placed in the parking of a trade centre and will allow its clients and employees, who have electric cars, to charge them while shopping or being at work.
The station could be used starting from 6:00 till 21:00. The owners of electric vehicles will have at their disposal one hour to charge their car for free, during which the battery can be charged at an 80-per cent level. The equipment is compatible with all types of electric vehicles and allows simultaneous charging of two vehicles. The station was set due to a strategic partnership initiated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova within the Sustainable Green Cities project.
UNDP Moldova Representative Dafina Gercheva has said that the event on the launch of the station represented “an important border stone in the trip to the sustainable development.” According to the official, in Moldova, 14 per cent of the quantity of carbon dioxide is emitted by the transports sector, which is the main contributor to the air’s pollution, exceeding even the industrial sector.
The acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, informed that there were already about 100 electric vehicles in the Moldovan capital, with their number increasing twice in the last two years. The mayor noted that it was necessary to take more actions to facilitate the development of the electric transport in Chisinau. In this respect, Codreanu gave as example the Cluj city of Romania, where the lanes meant for the public transport are also for the electric one.
Eleven stations for charging electric vehicles work in Moldova at present. Till late 2019, another two stations of this type will be inaugurated in the capital, also in the parking of trade centres. At the same time, the authorities intend to set 14 similar stations on the main roads of Moldova this year.
