Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/ - A number of eight stations for pumping drinking water and residual waters have been renovated and put into operation. The overall value of the investment is of 61.8 million euros, provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union.

The use of the new water pumping stations will enhance the efficiency of the water and sewerage supply services, for the benefit of the Chisinau municipality’s residents. The new equipment was supplied and tested. It includes 26 pumping units, of which 15 units at stations for pumping residual waters Costiujeni, Codru, Vieru, Motel, Vatra; ten units at the stations for pumping drinking water Independentei, Buiucani. At the same time, one unit with a capacity of about 5,500 cubic metres/hour was replaced at the station Nistru (Dniester) (Stage II A), which provides the pumping of gross water to the Water Treatment Station from Chisinau.

At the stations’ inauguration today, EBRD representative Angela Sax said that the Chisinau city, just as any other city, was depending on water and the latter plays an essential role in the life of the urban settlement. The official highlighted that the new stations would allow cutting the consumption of energy and the costs for pumping water.

For his part, the acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, noted that the final goal of the project was that the Moldovan capital’s residents benefit from qualitative services and quality drinking water, without being hit by drainings of water or disconnections from water supply.

The director general of the Apa-Canal Chisinau stock company, Valeriu Mesca, said that the use of the new stations would allow saving 500,000 lei monthly. Mesca also said that this would influence the water tariffs, as they are not established by the water provider.

The modernization of the eight stations started in 2017.
