National Public Healthcare Agency of Moldova says minors from Chisinau's suburbs infected with noroviruses

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ – The eleven children in Tohatin, Chisinau municipality, who hospitalised last week, have been infected with noroviruses. The National Agency for Public Healthcare (ANSP) has announced it today after the investigation of biological samples.
According to the ANSP's information and media communication service, after the investigation of the biological samples taken from the hospitalised children, it was identified the infection with noroviruses, which was the cause of the illnesses.
The agency mentions that there have been taken samples from the water in the school building's food block, and it is confirmed the presence of water coliforms, which is a health indicator indicating the possible presence of viruses in the water but not the cause of the disease itself in the mass.
According to the cited source, noroviruses are a group of highly contagious viruses that cause vomiting and diarrhea. The infection is transmitted either directly from person to person by fecal – oral route, or by respiratory, either indirectly throughout contaminated food and water.
Last week, several children in Tohatin arrived in the hospital after accusing diarrhea and vomiting.
