Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/- The Customs Service and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) are stepping up their collaboration within the Container Control Programme. The measures due to be taken were discussed at a meeting between Customs Director Vitalie Vrabie and UNODC Regional Coordinator Naida Chamilova.
One of the actions proposed by the customs director refers to the extension of the competence of the mixed intervention group specialized in container control. The group is currently operating only in Giurgiulesti, and the institution examines the opportunity to locate it in Chisinau and throughout the country.
The initiative was welcomed by Naida Chamilova, who said she would support all the steps in this regard. Assistance will also include organizing training, exchange of experience and study visits abroad.
The Customs Service noted that the parties will meet in the near future to determine how to implement the proposals.
The Container Control Program is implemented under the memorandum of understanding between the United Nations, the Customs Service and the Border Police of Moldova, signed in Vienna in late 2014.
