MPs must take into account results of referendum, CEC head says

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/- MPs must take into account the results of the 24 February advisory referendum. The head of the Central Electoral Commission, Alina Russu, made the statement in an interview exclusively for MOLDPRES.
Moldovan legislation provides for the organization of four types of referendum: constitutional, legislative, advisory and dismissal of the president.
The CEC head noted that the consultative referendum is meant to see the opinion of the citizens on some issues, but the MPs have to take into account the people's decision. "Now let's see what the political decision is about on this issue," Russu said.
Today the Constitutional Court confirmed the results of the consultative referendum. According to the data confirmed by the CCM, 1144261 people participated in the plebiscite, over 39.78% of the voters enrolled in the lists, the required validation rate being exceeded. To the question "Are you for reducing the number of MPs from 101 to 61?", 744529 voters voted pro and 266188 - Cons. For the second question, "Are you for the people to be able to dismiss MPs if they do not properly fulfill their obligations?" fewer voters expressed option, about 1143397, of which 808206 were pro, and 202497 –cons.
