Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/- Legislation in force does not prohibit merging electoral processes. The head of the Central Electoral Commission, Alina Russu, made the statement in an interview exclusively for MOLDPRES.
Organizing a possible early parliamentary election, along with local elections, is not against the law, but legislators should take more risks.
"Taking into account our experience in recent years, MPs should reflect a lot on the opportunity to hold two ballots on the same day. Especially if we talk about local ones, where we have villages in which citizens vote with four ballots and if we overlap with early elections, which again will be held under the mixed electoral system, involving two ballots, the process becomes even more complicated," Russu said.
The CEC head noted that in the case of early parliamentary elections, the money for the whole process will be taken from the state budget.
